One wine after another, the mastership of a craft is handed down from one generation to the following as it has been for millennia. The grape harvest is a special moment which brings family and friends to the countryside to harvest and press the grapes. That is why in September Fico Eataly World celebrates the grape harvest with a month of events which are dedicated to the pleasure of sharing a glass amongst the rows of vines.
The highlight comes on Saturday 15 September with the grape Harvest Festival: you can tread the grapes barefoot in wooden vats, take part in games inspired by the Baroliadi (the wine Olympics in the Langhe), a picnic and a literary stroll in the vineyards and, from 20 September, visit the exhibition Paesaggi d’autore. I patriarchi arborei e le viti storiche nell’Italia di Tonino Guerra.
With 333 doc, 74 docg and 118 igt wines, Italy can boast the most varied wine production in the world, which permits interesting combinations with regional gastronomic specialities. On 8 and 9 September, the Bollicine Pop event opens the Festival del Vino, bringing together Lambrusco wine with cured meats from Emilia Romagna and the Veneto. Sixty varietals grow in the Fico vineyard, with both rare and more common types. Then, also on Saturday 8 September, you can relax amongst the wine rows by buying an Aperivigna picnic hamper.
It continues on 15 and 16 September with the first stage of the Giro d’Italia dei Vini, in homage to the great whites, such as Ribolla and Collio; on 22 and 23 September it is the turn of the great reds, from Barolo to Brunello, from Primitivo to Amarone. And also, on Sunday 16 September, you can wander amongst the vineyards and olive groves in the company of the philosopher Massimo Donà and the pages of his book Pensieri Bacchici, while on 22 September there is a tasting of bottles produced by winemakers aged under 30.

On Saturday 22 September the Viniadi take place, in which competitors win points while having fun and learning new facts about the wine world. It all ends on a high note on 29 and 30 September with the boiling of the must, a fundamental process in the preparation of the base ingredient of traditional balsamic vinegar.
Trenitalia, the Official Carrier of the Bologna food park, has the Speciale Eventi (Special Events) offer for families of two or more people, with a 30% discount on the base price for return trips on Frecce, Intercity and Intercity Notte trains.
